Pup Round-Up

At Pup Round-Up, we believe better training begins with better understanding.

Behavior does not exist in a vacuum, which is why we look at the whole dog—from nose to tail. Before asking how to change a behavior, we believe it is imperative to understand why it is happening in the first place.

Modern dogs are being asked to navigate a deeply human world with an entirely different language, set of instincts, and sensory experience. We believe many of the behaviors dogs are labeled difficult for are often dogs doing their best. That is why we believe in teaching both ends of the leash. While we teach dogs what our cues and expectations mean, we teach their people how to listen to what they are communicating in return. Owner involvement is fundamental because our goal is not dependence on a trainer; it is to give people the knowledge and confidence to become better teachers, advocates, and partners for their dogs.

Canine behavioral science is rapidly evolving, and good training should evolve with it. We stay current with emerging research, continuing education, and developments in veterinary and behavioral science. We believe that ethics and efficacy belong in the same conversation. Science gives us the framework, but empathy, curiosity, and respect for the individual dog determine how we apply it.
